April 1 2010 Office Hours by Vanessa Fox

Maile Ohye joins Vanessa for Office Hours for April Fools day. The two discuss their adoration for irony and sarcasm, but their disinterest in April Fools.

Maile talks about how RDFA, rich snippets and other micro formats impact a SERP (doesn’t effect ranking, just display). Rich snippets are also now being used automatically, sites no longer have to submit. She also talks about Real Time Search, which just launched in 40 different languages. What’s important about this is that content that’s relevant right now, is delivered right now. Maile also talks other factors in real time information: linking structure, semantic analysis, and how often you update.

Last, Maile and Vanessa talk about statistics showing that more and more people are surfing the web while they are watching TV and how it’s important to be visible on the web.
